How to Configure Patton SN200/SN4141 FXS VoIP Gateways for 3CX
This guide is provided as is and no longer updated. Please contact vendor for support on how to connect them to 3CX
Supported Models: Patton SmartNode 200, 4141 FXS
FXS gateways connect internal analogue devices such as fax machines and phones, to register these as respective extensions on your 3CX PBX. These registered extensions can be addressed as limited-functionality phones, as they are connected to analogue devices.
To add this FXS gateway in SIP Trunks you need to have installed the latest Trinity firmware available from Patton.
⚠ Important:
- After connecting the gateway to your network, Patton recommends using their SmartNode Discovery Tool to help you find its IP address on your network.
Prepare the Patton FXS Gateway
To update the device firmware:
- Open a web browser to your FXS gateway web UI, using the IP address retrieved via the SmartNode Discovery Tool.
- Log in the device web UI - default username: administrator, password: <empty>.
- Expand the menu and go to “System” > “Firmware Upgrade” > “Upgrade”. Select “Browse” to upload the file and click on “Start” to upgrade.
- Wait a few minutes for the firmware upgrade to complete.
⚠ Important: Do not turn off the device until the update is complete.
Step 1: Add and Choose Device
Go to “Advanced” > “FXS/DECT” in 3CX Management Console and:
- Click on “Add FXS/DECT” and in “Select Brand” specify “Patton”.
- Select the “Patton Trinity 8 Port FXS GS (SN4141)” model/device.
- Enter the device’s MAC address, found underneath the device.
- Press “OK” to add the device.
Step 2: FXS Line Setup
Now you need to define these device and line-specific options:
- Provisioning Method: Select “Local LAN or “3CX SBC” depending on your setup
Note: If you select the 3CX SBC, enter the Static LAN IP Address of the SBC that is configured on the remote network.
- “GatewayIP address”: enter the IP address for your Patton FXS device. The gateway is set with this static IP after the configuration is uploaded.
- “Gateway SIP Port”: set to 5060.
- “Device Subnet Mask”: set the network mask for the device.
- “Default IP Route”: enter the default network gateway to be used by the Patton device.
- “DNS Server IP Address”: set the DNS server IP to be used by the Patton device.
- “Fax Transmission Mode”: select the transmission mode to use, for sending and receiving faxes via a provisioned fax extension on the FXS gateway.
📄 Note: Select T.38 if your VoIP provider supports this or you have a Patton FXO or ISDN configured for T.38, otherwise select “Fax in Audio”. In T.38 mode, the Patton FXS device actively switches to this protocol once the call is established.
- “Tone Set Selection”: select the country in which you are using this device. If the country is not listed, inquire with your telco for the tone set used for your line and select a country with this specific tone set.
Step 3: Map Extensions
Go to the “Extensions” tab in the “FXS/DECT” device configuration to assign the device extensions to use:
- Select the extension to assign to each respective port of the FXS gateway in sequence, e.g. select 001 for port 1, 002 for port 2, 003 for port 3, etc.
- Click “OK” to save your configuration.
📄 Note: To use fax machines connected on the FXS gateway, you need to assign these to respective dedicated fax extensions. See the section below on how to Add Fax Extensions.
Step 4: Provision the Gateway
Open the just created FXS device configuration and click on the “Provisioning URL”. A file will be downloaded on your PC which will be used next:
- Open the just created FXS device configuration, click on the “Provisioning URL” and save the generated configuration file, to subsequently upload on the device.

- Log in to your Patton FXS device web UI using a web browser - default username: administrator, password: <empty>.
- Expand the menu, go to “System” > “Configuration Files” and click on “+”.
- Click on “Browse” on the pop-up menu, select the generated configuration file to upload and click “OK”.
- Without closing the pop-up window, expand the menu and select “Reboot”.
