How to Install Multi-Line TAPI
To install the 3CX Multi-Line TAPI for use with the 3CX Softphone for Windows:
- Download the installer from here.
- Run the installer. Specify the extension numbers followed by the names of the extensions’ users.
- Press Next to continue and complete the installation.
- Open your 3CX Softphone, go to Settings and enable the checkbox ‘TAPI integrations’.
- Start making calls from your TAPI enabled app using the 3CX Softphone for Windows.
Adding more lines
If you need to add more lines to your TAPI installation, edit the following configuration file:
C:\ProgramData\3CXMultiLineTapi\3CXTapi.ini
Editing this configuration file is easy.
- Follow the same structure, adding as many lines as you need, one line per extension:
Extension Number,Name
- When all modifications are completed, save the file and exit.
- Ensure that the file is saved in UTF-8 encoding so press “Save as” and toggle the encoding to UTF-8 before pressing Save.
- For the changes to come into effect, the Windows “Telephony” service needs to be restarted.
- Restart your 3CX Softphone for Windows for the changes to come into effect.
Note: In the image above we show 5 users - 103, 106, 105, 107 and 104. It is important that on Line 1 (the session of Jack Horacio), TAPI is configured to work with the entry of extension 103 - Jack Horacio, and the 3CX Softphone is provisioned with extension 103. If the 3CX Softphone is configured with an extension number that does not match the selected TAPI line, TAPI will not work and you will get an “an invalid TAPI handle” error.
You can confirm if 3CX Softphone has correctly established a connection with TAPI by opening the app, click on Settings and TAPI integrations must be enabled, followed by the state ‘Connected’.
